Wisconsin Heights School District LMC Book Check Out and Return Policy
Number of Books Allowed and Due Dates:
Students Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten may check out one book, due one week from check out.
Students 1st or 2nd grade may check out two books per week (three books per week if participating in the Accelerated Reading program), due one week from check out. (Students in 1st or 2nd grade may renew one or both books for another week.)
Students in 3rd through 5th grades may check out three books per week, due one week from check out. (Students in 3rd through 5th grades may renew one or more books for another week.)
Sixth through 12th graders may check out three books, due two weeks from check out.
Overdue Policies:
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten:
There are no overdue fines, but Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students who do not return books when due will not be allowed to check out a new book while the book is overdue. Books will be considered overdue up to one month from the checkout date. If the book is not returned after a month, the book will be marked “lost” and students will be assessed a fine equal to the price of the book. A note will go home to parents. At that point, Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be allowed to check out a new book, and the fine will remain on record until paid.
If a second book is lost and a second fine is assessed, students will lose their library borrowing privileges until all fines are paid.
Because the goal is to be able to replace lost books so that other students may read them, district libraries will gladly accept a new (or nearly new) copy of a lost book title in lieu of the fine payment. All library obligations will be reported to the business office for collection at the end of the year. (Please note, the district will refund fines paid if books are later found and returned in good condition.)
First grade through 12th grade:
If a student does not return a book or books by the due date, the number of books available for checkout will be reduced by the number not returned. For example, if a student checks out three books and does not return one book, he or she will be allowed to check out only two books until the overdue book is returned.
Books will be considered overdue, without fines, up to one month from the checkout date. If the book is not returned after a month, the book will be marked “lost” and students will be assessed a fine equal to the price of the book. A note will go home to parents from the LMC, and students will continue to be allowed a reduced number of book checkouts until fines are paid. If a second book is lost and a second fine is assessed, students will lose their library borrowing privileges until all fines are paid.
Damage to library books such as drawings, tears, water stains, etc. will be assessed according to severity of the damage. Students who continually damage books may lose their borrowing privileges.
